Root canal retreatment
During retreatment, the endodontist reopens the tooth and removes the existing filling material that was placed in the root canals during the first treatment. Using high magnification and illumination, the endodontist will examine the inside of the tooth for cracks, additional canals or anything else that may have caused the first root canal treatment to be unsuccessful. The endodontist then removes any infection by cleaning and shaping the canals before sealing them again. Finally, the opening in the tooth is filled. Once the tooth heals, a new crown can be placed on the tooth to protect it.
